What you will need: 

Download links: Merlyn Chrome Extension and Merlyn Companion App

​For the best experience, we recommend Chromebooks include the following specifications:

  • Minimum 8 GB Ram ​
  • Intel i series or AMD Ryzen series processor​
  • Chrome OS 118+

Once the extension is downloaded and installed, our Onboarding Guide will automatically launch. You can also access the Onboarding Guide at any time here: https://portal.merlyn.org/onboarding

Installing the Chrome Extension

Step 1

Choose your region and select "Next" in the lower right-hand corner.

Log in with your district credentials using either Google or Microsoft.

Step 3

A confirmation page will be displayed; click Next in the lower right-hand corner to continue.

Step 4

Plug in your USB connector and press "Next" in the lower right-hand corner.

Step 5

If you already have the extension installed, you will see this page.

Otherwise, you'll be taken to the Chrome Extension store to install that now. Return to the onboarding tab once that's installed.

Companion Application

Step 6

Click "Download" to launch the Google Play Store and install the application.

Step 7

Once the app is installed, launch it from your start menu to Grant Permissions needed for Merlyn to function.

Click on Grant Permission to the right of all three boxes shown here.

Step 8

As each permission windows pop up, click on Merlyn and then click on any sliders to allow the required permissions.

Click Agree to continue.

Step 10

Click where it shows Merlyn Off on this Accessibility window to toggle on the "Use Merlyn" permission slider.

Step 11

Click Allow to continue with the final permissions needed for the application to function.

When all permissions have been granted, your window should look like this. Minimise the Merlyn application window to continue with the Onboarding guide in your browser.

Additional Permissions

Step 13

Click on Grant Permissions to launch a separate pairing matrix that will allow your Merlyn remote to function.

Click on Pair for all three boxes shown here to grant remote permissions.

Step 15

As each window comes up, click on Merlyn at the top of the box and click Connect in the lower right to grant the necessary permissions.

Step 16

Choose Allow while visiting the site to grant Merlyn access to the microphone for Voice Commands.

Step 17

Once those have been granted, all three boxes should show a green cheque mark to confirm Merlyn is ready to use!
